How to make a skirt out of old jeans

So, I am 5 weeks away from having a baby.

This was my problem:
I have a couple of skirts and a dress for church. All of them come just below the knee requiring me to wear tights.

I have decided to not deal with tights for the rest of my pregnancy. What do I do? I am not about to go out and buy a long skirt when I have just a handful of Sundays to deal with. Then I thought I would break the unspoken rule and start wearing pants to church. I didn't think that would fly. The only alternative was to make something.
That is when I looked on the internet and figured out how to make a skirt out of old jeans. I have a couple pairs of maternity pants that were not fitting over my thighs any more. So, I tore them apart and made a skirt. Since some of you may be interested in how I did this, I will give you the simple steps. You can find better details on other websites.

Step 1: Take out the inner leg seam. Take out the front seam to the zipper (or fake zipper in my maternity case) and take out the back seam to the pockets.

Step 2: cut apart second pair for fabric to add to first pair. I wanted a long skirt making the second pair necessary. I took the legs off the second pair and cut out one seam making two large pieces of rectangular fabric.

Step 3: Pin like crazy! Make sure everything lays nicely or it... wont lay nicely.

Step 4: baste and sew. Baste the pieces together making sure nothing is bunched or extra fabric caught. Then sew. I didn't have to add a bottom hem since I just lined up the already existing bottom hems of the pants.

That is it. I was really simple. I would recommend trimming extra fabric BEFORE you sew. I did not and have a lot of unpicking to do when things were caught and bunched. Overall, I thought it was a very successful project.
